Sr Director of Process Development
Chris Davies is Senior Director of Process Development at Alphinity, leading development of the company's single-use TFF platform, TFFi. He brings two decades in biopharmaceutical downstream processing, with hands-on and leadership roles spanning Repligen, Pall Life Sciences, Oxford Biomedica, and Alvotech, across chromatography, tangential flow filtration, equipment validation, and tech transfer for drug substance and fill-finish. His experience runs from large-scale column packing and process engineering through to recipe development and clinical batch delivery.
Intensified TFF for fragile modalities: what changes when the components change
Bioprocessing has entered a new era, but much of the equipment it depends on was designed for the last one. As the industry shifts from robust monoclonal antibodies to increasingly fragile, high-value modalities such as AAVs, mRNA and lipid nanoparticles, protecting product quality has become just as important as improving productivity. Continuous and intensified manufacturing promises lower buffer consumption, smaller facilities and reduced costs, but these gains rely on every component performing under far tighter process demands. Drawing on peer-reviewed research into pump-induced shear and pulsation, Chris Davies explores why pumps are no longer passive utilities, how hidden flow behaviour can influence yield, and why precision engineering is becoming essential to delivering the full promise of intensified TFF.
Alphinity
New therapies are failing in manufacturing, not in the lab. Fragile modalities. Viscous formulations. Unstable TMP. Scale-up failure. Alphinity designs the fluid handling systems that solve these problems at the source.
Alphinity is a bioprocessing technology company specializing in precision fluid handling. They design pumps, valves, systems, and control platforms that enable manufacturers to process sensitive biologics that conventional equipment cannot support.
